About Us

Our Mission

LVWC works to improve the lives of adults in Washington County &
southeastern CT by offering free literacy programs and services such as:

  • adult basic literacy (reading, writing and conversational English)

  • English for speakers of other languages

  • citizenship preparation

  • financial literacy

  • workforce literacy

  • GED support

 

Our Accreditation

 

Literacy Volunteers of Washington County is an accredited affiliate of ProLiteracy America and is funded through the generous support of our donors.

How We Help

 

We support student-centered learning by meeting with each student to assess literacy levels and discuss individual goals. Then we match students with their own volunteer tutor to help them on their literacy journey. We also offer conversation classes for adult English language learners.
